( Throne of Glass takes place in the fantasy empire called Erilea, which is ruled by a magic-hating tyrant king. The story begins two years after the main character, the infamous assassin Celaena Sardothien, was captured and sentanced to life in the salt mines of Endovier. She has been unexpectedly released and has been brought forth to compete for Crown Prince Dorian in a competition to have the honor of being the king's champion. It's a title that many criminals would kill for. And someone is. The other contestants are beginning to end up dead, and Celeana may be next. Meanwhile, some members of the court are suspicious about what a city girl (Celaena's cover) is doing in the competition, and Celaena's guard, Chaol, is worried for Dorian's safety, as he and what is quite possibly the world's most deadly assassin have struck up a tenitive friendship. Maybe he's a bit jealous? If Celaena wants to survive, let alone win, the competition, she will have to work with her fellow criminals as well as her captors to succeed.
This book was very interesting with many good plot twists that will keep the reader turning pages. Dorian supplied some laughs, and although Chaol has a rough exterior, he really does care about Dorian's - and Celeana's - well being. The plot was well paced and had a good story line. The only thing I didn't like was parts of Celeana's personality. She sometimes comes off as spoled and bratty, and her temper gets in the way of the story sometimes. All in all, I would give the book 4/5 stars. Can't wait to read the sequel!
