With her mother in a magic coma, you've learned that you're a shadowhunter, and seeing vampires and werewolves has become a everyday thing, normal and Clary Fray aren't good friends. Her new life makes it difficult to spend as much time as she would like with her best friend, lovable Simon. Now that Valentine is back Clary must find him - a task made more strange because Valentine is Clary's father. Because the boy Clary does want to be with is her brother, Jace, Clary tries to kindle feeling for Simon with questionable results.

Speaking of Jace. Now that he is known as Valentine's son, his loyalty the the shadowhunters is questioned. But is is justified or stupid? clary, Izzy, and Alec refuse to believe that their friend would betray the Clave for the father he barley knows.

Valentine is on the rise, and he has a chilling new plan to try and regain the control he once had in the shadowhunter world. But the Clave may be unwilling to help the young shadowhunters stop the insane Valentine.

This was a good sequel. I continued to enjoy Cassie Clare's world and the developing characters. Th econflict of the characters - i.e. Jace- - was sometimes frustrating but, overall, added interesting twists and made thoughtful questions arise. I love the book's questions and statements about love and loyalty, and I am going to continue reading. Parts were a bit slow and I think I enjoyed the first book a bit more, but it was nevertheless a great read. 4/5 stars!
