For Bella Swan, things are more or less back to normal in Forks. She's managed to escape the Voltori, and she has returned to Forks with a safe Edward in tow. Bella has finally made up her mind to become a vampire, but not everyone is happy with her choice. Edward and Rosalie are still against her turning, and Jacob is horrified by the idea. Even so, the Cullens have bigger problems to worry about. A vampire is on a killing spree, and it's reckless behavior and disregard for the rules the Voltori have set in place is going to endanger the vampires in the area. When the Cullens learn that they might be dealing with a group of hungry, ignorant newborn vampires, they'll have to team up with the werewolves to keep Forks - and Bella - safe.
As I was expecting, there was zero character development. None. Not even a little sliver. Okay, maybe we learn a little more about Rosalie and why she hates Bella, and we learn about Jasper's past. The characters don't really change - for the better. Bella's as dumb, if not dumber, than ever. Our stupid little love triangle is still going strong, and Edward and Jacob are in a sort of dumb contest to see who's going to get Bella, and they're forcing her to choose one or the other. I just realized how sexist this book is. Bella can't do anything without a guy helping her. The idea for the vampire invasion thing was okay, but it still doesn't redeem the sheer stupidity of the Cullens and Bella. 2/5. There's only one more book to go, and then I can be done.
