Tris and her friends may have escaped Jeanine Matthew and stopped her from destroying the Abnegagtion, but the battle has just begun. Tensions are high, and war between the factions appears inevitable. Tris, Four, Caleb, and the rest of the surviviors have fled first to the Amity and then to the Factionless, seeking shelter from their enemies. But not everything is exactly as it seems, and the worst enemies may be closer than they think. Their "allies" may have hidden agendas, and Tris would be wise to watch her back.

Meanwhile, Tris is still haunted by the guilt of what she did to Will and is continuing to hide it from everybody - even Four. But Four has secrets of his own, and his difficult past may be the only way to find someone who has as much of a reason to fight Jeanine as he does, if not more so. He and Tris must also deal with Peter and Marcus, who are untrustworthy and seem to have their own agendas. Jeanine hasn't given up, either, and continues to hunt a serum that will let her control the city.

But everything may well become unimportant when a shocking secret about the city comes to light...

This book is a very sad case. I saw a lot of potential in the story line and plot, but it wasn't used. The story lagged many times and was often boring. Tris and Four's relatonship and attitude towards each other frustrated me. If they talked things out, nothing would have been a problem! Some ideas and plot lines in the story weren't explained, which is annoying. The clifhanger ending was exciting, but seemed a bit sudden. The plot twists were good, but they fell short of what I expected. Overall, I was very disappointed. This was in no way a worthy sequel to Divergent. I'll give this book 3/5 stars, but that's about it.
