A deadly virus terrorizes Texas. The disease is almost always fatal. But sometimes, for an unknown reason, the dead victim will wake up, or "reboot." Reboots are stronger, faster, and have unatural healing abilities. But there's a catch: The longer a Reboot was dead, the less human they will be when they wake up - colder, crueler, harsher. Wren Connolly was dead for the longest of any Reboot known: 178 minutes. She's the best. The most emotionless, but ths\at's a small price to pay for being the perfect killing machine, right? The Reboots are used as soldiers by the government. But that also means that the Reboots are treated like animals. They have no rights, and they are litteraly property of the state of Texas.
Wren can't believe it when she has to mentor Callum, a Rebbot dead for only 22 minutes. (And therefore still practicaly a slow, stupid human.) He isn't strong, or fast, or really all that bright. And he asks too many questions. But over time, she develops a tenitive relationship with the 22, and after being told to dispose of Callum, she is hesitant. After learning what the government is using weak Reboots for, Callum and Wren flee, chasing rumors of a band of free Reboot rebels.
This was an okay book. There was nothing wrong with the characters, plot, or anything else major in the story, but there wasn't anything great about it, either. I kind of like the new idea with the undead that was used in the story, but the plot wasn't very original or enticing. 3.5/5 stars.
