Harper Price likes to consider herself a lady - but lately, she hasn't been acting like one! After a terrifying night at the Homecoming dance, Harper finds herself with an array of strange powers, including a supernatural fighting ability. She soon learns that she is a Paladin, or a gaurdian of someone or something. Harper is horrified to learn that she must protect David Stark, her archnemisiss since childhood. David is a oracle, a magical being with the ability to see the future. Neither Harper nor David are too keen to be working together, but if David wants to live, it must be done.

However, David is being hunted by a group of mages, which are a bit like wizards. The mages want to preform a spell on David that, in theory, will make him more powerful. The side effects? There's the little matter that the ritual could turn David insane. If he wants to live, he and Harper will have to work together, like it or not.

The story was original and very exciting! The characters have great personalities, and the plot never lagged or went too fast. The love interest isn't love at first sight, which I liked, but instead is built up slowly but thoughtfuly. If anything was wrong with the book, Harper sometimes thought she was smart but ended up doing really dumb stuff and the cliffhanger ending frustrated me. But there's a second book, so here's hoping for some character development! I really enjoyed this book and would definitly reccommed it to everyone and anyone! 4/5 stars.
