Celaena has won the king's deadly competition and is now his champion. But, unwilling to harm people who she would rather help, she secretly helps them fake their deaths. However, it may only be a matter of time before someone finds out. In the meantime, her loyalty is questioned by everyone - even Nehemia, one of her closest friends.
Then, a terrible tragedy shakes Celeana's world, and she learns that she may have been betrayed. Angry and hurt, she must decide where she stands and who she is willing to help. And as she struggles to regain her footing, unrest is stirring. And Celaena's disobedience isn't the only reason she has to be careful - if anyone finds out who she really is, it could end in her death.
I really enjoyed the developed love interest with Celaena and Chaol... xD. Celaena continues to have her flaws, and I like that about her. It helps her seem more relatable. We also learn a lot more about Dorian. I didn't like the tension between Dorian and Chaol, but nothing turned into a love triangle like i was expecting. :)
This was a good follow up to Throne of Glass. Celaena's character development is good and we learn some awesome things about her! I'm sorry it took me so long to get to this book - I wanted to wait until it was in paperback. Celaena is still a total badass, and although there isn't a ton of humor mixed into the story, the romance is paired well with the action. I loved learning about Celaena's past. 4/5 stars!
