Emrys has always relished her life in the Highlands, safe from the toxic technology of modern cities. But she has been called to serve as a member of the Faery Guard, protecting England's royalty. And of all people to guard! Emrys must keep a watchful eye on Prince Richard, who is infamous for his hard partying. Emrys quickly becomes frustrated with keeping the obnoxious heir out of trouble. In a hope that her job will be easier if the prince knows what's going on, Emrys makes her presesence known, and Richard is enchanted with his guardian and the magical world.

But in revealing herself, Emrys has broken one of the Guard's laws, and her attachment to the prince isn't exactly staying professional. In the meantime, dark creatures are being drawn to the prince and a dark power is rising, one that could be a threat to humans and faeries alike.

I don't read a lot of books about the fey, so I was a little doubtful about this book, even though it's been recommended to me by several friends. It was original and I couldn't put it down. The love interest and plot is well developed and I enjoyed how there wasn't any insta-love. But despite the prince's hard-partying rep, I din't see a whole bunch of parties. Likewise, I'm not sure I learned as much about the fey as I wuld have liked. Overall, 4/5 stars.
