Nightlife: All Us Immortals

All Us Immortals. That's the name of a playlist on my iPod. Immortality is idea that I've humored for a long, long time. When all the little kids wanted to grow up and wanted to have their names in lights for whatever reason - singer, artist, football star, whatever, - I wanted to be immortal. And a doctor. But first, immortal. Messing around with a friend, I mentioned immortality, and she replied, rather seriously, "I would never want to be immortal. Watching everyone you love age around you would be awful." Which is true. And to be trapped in immortal life, never able to die (even when you might want to) would become awful.
What a nice thought, wanting to die.
And that reminds me of a book I read in which a character was like ten thousand years old and his mind was begining to breakk down. Not to mention that, in theory, if you were around forever, you would live to see the end of the world.
Would you want to be immortal, living forever... I mean, when you think about it, what are the benefits, really? Other than living forever. If you really think about it, what great advantage does immortal life give you over everyone else? More time to learn, sure. More time to become wise, yeah. But apart from that. To see the years tick by while you remain unchanged... is it really worth it? The idea of being young and strong forever sounds great, but is it really worth it? I think you'd sacrifice more than you know.
