Are they kids' books? Yes. Do you have to avoid reading them in public? No. Even though we don't act our age most of the time anyways, (Yeah, we're not really that mature.) we need to read a good kids' book every now and then. And if it's a good book, there's nothing to be ashamed of. So I've found some stuff that you totally need to read, regardless of what your age may be. And if you stop worrying about the looks you might get, you'll enjoy them. And there's something here for everyone, I promise. ;)
The Unwanteds Series by Lisa McMann
The Unwanteds is a fanasy series about a place called Quill where creativity is avoided at all costs. Those who are creative are declared "Unwanteds" and exiled. They are then sent to a giant mansion to learn to use their talents to use magic. (Ha! Were you expecting me to say they're left to die or something?) They have all sorts of awesome adventure and all that, but Quill is still a looming threat.
There are four books released so far and more on the way. (The one pictured here is book 1.) You might recognize the author from her YA series, The WakeTrilogy and The Visions Series. Learn more about her here.
Matilda by Roald Dahl
Matilda has a horrible family - her parents fuss over her brother (who's not so awesome himself) and they ignore Matilda, sometimes acting like she's invisible. But Matilda is also a genius, and she's got a few tricks up her sleve for her disgusting family. She also harnesses strange powers to help her teacher and evade the school's terrifying headmistress.
The Last Dragon Chronicles by Chris D'Lacey

Liz Pennykettle has a remarkable gift - she can make the clay statues she creates come to life. She and her daughter, Lucy, live ina house surrounded by living clay dragons, and the women themselves are related to Guinevere, a ancient girl who was present at the death of the last dragon hundreds, if not thousands, of years ago.
The series starts out good enough, with a cutsey first book. But starting in the second book, things take a turn for the strange, magical, and awesome. There are seven books - the one pictured here is the fifth.
The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester

Piper is just like any other girl - except that she can fly. After her community finds out, her paents send her to a special school for children with powers where nothing is quite what it seems. This can only be described as an incredibly heartwarming story!
Artemis Fowl (series) by Eoin Colfer

Artemis Fowl is a genius teen who uses his smarts to commit - and get away with - stunning crimes. However, he's in over his head (maybe) when he hatches a plot that involves, of all things, a faerie. He has all sorts of crazy adventures with the fey, and slowly his icy (Kind of the only way to put it.) heart thaws a bit. The series is complete with eight books. The one pictured here is the first.
The Pegasus series by Kate O'Hearn

I know, I know. But bear with moi. The series is abut a girl, Emily, who bonds with - yeah - Pegasus. But even as she tries to take care of her friend and protect Olympus, the government is after them, and things get way more difficult. The series can be pretty suspensful and entertaining!
Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney

Most of you have heard about the books, seen the movie, or read them. The series follows a teen named Greg as he tries to deal with his family, friends, and classmates. The books may seem easy to read, but that's before you learn that some books have a lexile higher than 1000. If anything, they're a funny series to read to pass the time.
Wings of Fire series by Tui T. Sutherland

The dragon tribes of Pyrrhia have been at war for decades. Three sisters, Blister, Blaze, and Burn, have turned their struggle for their tribe's throne into a world war. Hidden under the mountains, a group of young dragons who, according to a prophecy, are destined to end the war, wait for the day they can leave. But when they take matters into their own hands and flee, they enter a dangerousworld where nobody can be trusted. Brutal (or naïve) dragons queens rule, and each of them want the dragons for their own means.
The series has six books out and more coming, and the one pictured here is book 1. The books are exciting and the characters are great! (Personaly, Tsunami is my favorite.)
Swindle series by Gordan Korman

What starts as a insane plot to steal (back) a million-dollar baseball card turns into a series of crazy adventures lead by Griffin, "The Man With the Plan". His team also consists of a tech genius, and animal whisperer, a mountain climber, and his on/off school bully. The series has five books with maybe more on the way.
Canterwood Crest series by Jessica Burkhart

So, okay - this one is on the list for a slightly different reason than the others. It's much like Pretty Little Liars in the way that not a ton really happens, focusing more on high school drama than a really good plot. The drama is super entertaing, though! Its' good for passing the time ad giving your brain a rest.
