The book begins when Calla wakes up after she and Shay are taken in by the Searchers after escaping from one messed-up wedding. But even though the two groups have a common enemy with the Keepers, tensions still run high. Calla is horrified to learn about the punishment her pack and family have been forded to endure in her place, and she wants to do anything to get them back. The thought of Ren is also weighing one her mind. She's torn over what she wants to do to get him back and her choice to stay with Shay. Now that Calla has her freedom, she seems unsure about what to do with it.

We meet some new characters in this one. Ethan and Connor are searchers who, although they can be jerks, offer some much-needed comic relief. Adne is another searcher, and there's some tension between her and Calla because Adne comes off as sometimes trying to hit on Shay. xD.

This book has a remarkable ability to both tick me off and make me feel all warm and fuzzy insde. I'm not sure if it's the writing style or what, so I'll chalk it up to feels. There isn't much character development, although Calla is starting to learn to think for herself. Parts of the story still seem to be getting set up, so I hope that we get plenty of action in Bloodrose. The book overall seems to be sort of a bridge between Nightshade and Bloodrose. Over all, I'm not sure a ton happened that was really important to the story. I wasn't super big on it. 3/5.
