On the spaceship Godspeed lies the hope of humanity: people to pursue a brighter future on a distant planet. The leader of the ship's people is Eldest, a ruler who is determined to do whatever is best for the community, even if it makes him seem like a bad person. His heir, teenage Elder, doesn't quite share the same viewpoint.
Amy and her parents were cryogenically frozen so that they would be ready and able to help when the ship reaches it's destination. But Amy is woken earlier than planned when someone wakes her up.
This can only mean that someone tried to kill her, And she's not the only one. Other passengers have had their chambers unplugged, and not every passenger survives. Amy is desperate to find the killer, and she's terrified that her parents could be next.
Eldest is curious about Amy, and the two slowly strike up a careful friendship. Not all is what it seems on Godspeed, and the truth is burried deep.
So, the three big characters: Because it's ladies first, I'll start with Amy. When she first comes into the story, she's a scared girl who's trying to figure out a way to fit into a world that wasn't designed for her. But as the book progresses, she develops well and becomes braver and a stronger heroine.
As for Eldest, the bookshows him as being an antagonist. But in the end, he's doing what he thinks is best for his people, even if it's not a nice thing. Elder is a well-known picture of teenage rebellion that's a good pairing with Orion, his older, wiser friend/mentor.
I loved the space theme and the world on board the Godspeed was really interesting. The plot wasn't too fast-paced and well written. And, awesomely enough, no insta-love! This would be a good book for anyone who loves a sci-fi mixed with a good mysterey! 4/5.
