Throwing a Divergent Party

Saturday, April 4, means a lot of good things: The day before Easter, sleeping in, my friend's birthday pary, etc. But for Divergent fans everywhere, it's National Four Day, the day we celebrate Tobias Eaton and the Chicago of Divergent. That's right, Initiates. Today's the day you get to whip out the books and enjoy a day of pure Divergentness. The logical thing to do is plan a Divergent-themed party. For those of you who aren't sure how to go about doing just that, fear not. I've put together a guide to throw the best faction party this side of Chicago.

The Decorations

The decorations should be those of the host's faction.

Dauntless: Use the faction's black and it's firey symbol to decorate the party space. Use bold colors and don't hold back!

Abnegation: Keep it simple. Decorate the space with simple objects, like some well-placed stones.

Erudite: Use the faction's water symbol, giving your party area a fountain if you can. Keep things a calming blue color and put up some educational posters.

Amity: Use nature-themed decorations such as flowers to make everyone feel like they're outside! Make use of Amity's red and yellow.

Candor: Use as much glass as possible to keep everything truthful and transparent. The color scheem should be plain black and white.

The Outfits

Guests should dress for their faction.

Dauntless: Wear black, and don't hold back when personalizing your outfit! Girls, this is your change to sport your most extravagant jewelry and use your makeup boldly. Everyone can color their hair and revel in their childhood with some temporary tattoos.

Abnegation: Wear simple, modest grey clothes that fit loosely.

Erudite: Wear blue and give your outfit an intellectual air with some glasses.

Candor: Dress to impress in an outfit with a bold pattern in black and white. Leave the makeup at home to keep it honest!

Amity: Dress casually in red and yellow, choosing comfort over fashion.

The Food

Since not everyone is from the same faction, you should prepare food from each group so everyone can enjoy it!

Dauntless: What's a party without Dauntless cake and hamburgers? Get the recipe for Dauntless cake here. Pay tribute to Uriah and Marlene with some muffins.

Candor: Provide some of Candor's special treat, ice cream - in labeled containers, of course.

Abnegation: Provide the Abnegation partygoers with some simple cheese and crackers. Offer up some plain cookies for dessert.

Erudite: To drink, provide the guests with some of Erudite's trademark orange soda.

Amity: Fuel the nature - loving Amity with fun snacks like animal crackers and gummy worms, or keep it natural with some fresh fruit and veggies. Don't forget to have the famous Amity bread!

The Games

Much like with food, you should prepare games that cater to every faction's tastes.

Dauntless: Pump everyone up with an exciting game outside. Nothing brings back memories like capture the flag!

Candor: Both the Candor and the Dauntless can enjoy a game of Truth or Dare.

Amity: Play an outgoing group game that will get everyone involved, like charades.

Erudite: Even during a party, it's important to keep your mind sharp with a game like Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble.

Abnegation: Playing games is frivolous. Try helping others instead. Have guests bring some canned good to donate, for example.
